A father of two allegedly shot himself Friday morning, according to family members.
Thirty-two-year-old Jamal Kemp, reportedly shot himself in the mouth at his home on Ferguson Way off Perpall Tract.
His wife told reporters that he had two children – a four-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son.
The Bahama Journal was also informed that Kemp was a manager at Compass Point and a waiter at Footprints restaurant at Albany.
Police did not classify the incident as a suicide.
Family members gathered around the scene as police collected evidence. Some of them were screaming asking themselves “Why did this happen?”
“He could have come to anyone of us,” one of his family members said as she cried uncontrollably.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Inspector Chrislyn Skippings briefed reporters once police had completed processing the scene.
“It was shortly before 9:00 a.m. that we received a call of a shooting through Ferguson Way,” he said.
“Police found a man with injuries to the body. Our investigations are continuing. At this particular time, I will limit my comments to say it was a shooting incident. We have not classified this incident formally yet.”
At the time, Inspector Skippings said investigations were preliminary.
“We gathered evidence from a scene but we want to wait until we can sit down with the family,” she said.
“People throughout The Bahamas and the world are going through stressful moments but I encourage people to utilise the agencies we have here like the Crisis Centre, Social Services, you have pastors and family members who can provide you with advice to make it through. There is no reason for anyone to give up.”
Inspector Skippings said situations and trials come to make you stronger.
“Problems will always be here but the thing is to know how to manage them,” she said.
