The family of a 35-year-old woman, who apparently killed herself Friday night, is speaking out about her shocking death.
On Saturday, the loved ones of Shauntee Gibson spoke with reporters outside the Coroner’s Court in Victoria Gardens and told reporters about the shocking find.
“Her step-grandmother didn’t see her during the evening so she sent someone to look for her to give her something to eat,” Gibson’s father Anthony Gibson told reporters.
“They went to her room and said something happened to her. I was at a basketball game with my wife and son and we left to see what happened and when we got there we discovered that she was in the room.”
Gibson was a resident of Reeves Street, Fox Hill.
According to reports, police were notified of the incident shortly after 11:00 p.m. Friday.
Gibson was reportedly found by family members inside a residence hanging from a rope.
According to Mr. Gibson, his daughter was a quiet person who never really bothered anyone and even up to Friday, hours before her death, was in seemingly good spirits.
“She read a lot and spent a lot of time on the computer. The last time we spoke she was happy and told me that everything was okay. Our family is okay. Everyone is coping but we are shocked and surprised at what has happened,” he said.
The grieving father added that while officials from the Coroner’s Court are doing their part, the family will be making funeral preparations.
He said that up to the time of her death, his daughter was not working but did some clerical and medical work in the past as well as holding a job at a local bookstore.
He also left some advice for parents as well.
“Continue to love your children and family members,” Mr. Gibson said.
“Keep check on them daily. Make sure everything is okay. The bigger picture is that God is in the midst of everything. He takes care of everything and not us. He has a plan and will take care no matter how rough it may seem.”
This latest incident follows a similar one which occurred Friday morning.
Thirty-two-year-old Jamal Kemp was found after 9:00 in his home through Ferguson Way off Perpall Tract.
He allegedly shot himself in the mouth.
Police investigations continue into both matters.
