After five days on the run, police nabbed the armed robbery suspect who escaped custody while at the Grove Police Station Friday, Superintendent Stephen Dean announced yesterday.
Tamicko Williams, 24, was arrested during a massive police operation across New Providence which also led to the arrests of 24 other people on a number of serious offenses, Supt. Dean said during a press conference at the Central Detective Unit (CDU) office.
Williams, a resident of Podoleo Street was arrested at a residence in Cable Beach.
Police also arrested a man for harbouring Williams.
“Tamicko Williams was arrested by our officers based on intelligence and direct support from members of the public,” Supt. Dean said.
Police have refused to release specific details about how Williams managed to escape while in custody last Friday, but the police press liaison officer confirmed that the matter was being investigated internally and he hinted that disciplinary actions could be pending.
“The matter is being investigated internally also to determine whether we have to discipline some people or we have to improve some security measures so we are looking at the matter,” he said.
Yesterday, Williams was arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court where, in addition to a charge of escaping police custody, he faced charges of armed robbery and receiving.
It is alleged that he robbed a woman of several items including an iPhone, iPad, glasses and a laptop.
He is also accused of stealing a 2004 Honda CRV.
While Williams pleaded not guilty to the escape charge, he was not required to enter a plea to the other charges.
He was denied bail and remanded to prison until May 15.
