The Free National Movement announced yesterday that ecologist, attorney and noted television host of ‘Bahamas at Sunrise’ Romi Ferreira has joined the party, with immediate effect.
A pioneer in the field of environmental law and environmental consultancy in The Bahamas, Mr. Ferreira holds an honours ecology degree from The University of The West Indies, and an honours degree in law from The University of London.
A practicing attorney, Mr. Ferreira is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, The Bar of England and Wales, The Bahamas Bar Association and an affiliate member of The Bahamas Society of Engineers.
In February of 2004, Mr. Ferreira founded Ferreira and Company, Environmental Attorneys and Consultants offering professional services in Impact Assessments, Management Plans, Policy, Litigation, Legislative Drafting, Energy and Utilities and Real Estate, Corporate and Intellectual Property law.
In making the announcement, Free National Movement Chairman Michael Pintard said Mr. Ferreira’s dual expertise in ecology and law makes him an ideal resource, strengthening the party’s platform in the core areas of energy reform, sustainable development and environmental justice.
Mr. Ferreira is married to Erica Pople-Ferreria and has five children.
In joining the Free National Movement, Mr. Ferreira stated, “Our country is headed in the direction of reduced economic activity, high unemployment, increased poverty levels, and an unacceptable level of criminal activities. We need new direction! I therefore call on all Bahamians to join with the Free National Movement to arrest this drift and put our county on a path of sustainable development, peace and prosperity ”
