Opposition Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis called Prime Minister Perry Christie’s recent announcement of a lawsuit against FNM Chairman Michael Pintard “a deflection,” which is geared towards silencing the public.
“That’s a deflection and the prime minister’s way of suppressing democracy. He knows it’s an old political trick. You bring suits or issues to trial so that it cannot be spoken about again,” Dr. Minnis said.
According to reports, Prime Minister Christie has instructed his attorney to file a lawsuit against Mr. Pintard for defamation of character.
It is alleged that Mr. Christie interfered with a police matter involving Bahamas Consul General to Atlanta Randy Rolle.
Dr. Minnis said he welcomes legal action along with the Freedom of Information Act if it will move the country a step closer to becoming more transparent.
“If he wants to bring legal action, we will sing and dance in the court. He likes to dance. Let’s dance in the courts. We’re ready to dance. We’ll see how much he’s going to shuffle in there,” he said.
Mr. Pintard has yet to comment on this matter.
