Cabinet Office has confirmed that Dame Marguerite Pindling, widow of former Prime Minister Sir Lynden Pindling will serve as the next governor general of The Bahamas.
The announcement, which follows Queen Elizabeth II’s appointment, puts to rest much speculation as to who will assume the top post once Sir Arthur Foulkes demits the high office.
Prime Minister Perry Christie kept Sir Arthur’s replacement close to his chest, saying only days ago that he has sent his recommendation and that he was “awaiting the queen’s pleasure.
However, reliable Bahama Journal sources have long confirmed that Deputy to the Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling would have assumed the role.
Sir Arthur was appointed governor general on April 14, 2010.
He and Lady Foulkes recently paid a farewell visit to the queen.
Air Arthur is scheduled to formally demit office on Tuesday after inspecting a Royal Bahamas Police Force Guard.
Dame Marguerite will be sworn in during a special ceremony at Government House at noon that same day.
