Member of Parliament for North Abaco Kirk Cornish, returned to the Magistrate’s
Court Tuesday morning, for service of his voluntary bill of indictment.
The MP, who has been accused of rape and threats of death, stood before Senior
Magistrate Kara Turnquest Deveaux.
The MP and former parliamentary secretary was first charged back on August 9
with indictable offences including two counts of rape, two counts of assault and
one count of threats of death against his former girlfriend.
According to the prosecution, the incidents allegedly took place in Cooper’s, Town
Abaco and New Providence between January 20, 2023 and April 4, 2023. On April
7, the female reported the alleged acts to the police on Freeport, Grand Bahama.
The VBI ultimately removes the case from the Magistrate’s Court to the Supreme
Court where the MP will be arraigned on the allegations before Justice Cheryl
Grant Thompson on October 27.
Cornish is being represented by attorneys Owen Wells and Anthony McKinney.
