COA Upgrades Underway

Deteriorated conditions at the Court of Appeal (COA) will soon be issues of the past as extensive upgrades now underway at the court facility are expected to expand and improve working conditions.

Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson said recently that plans are underway to take the court to another level.

The announcement came during the attorney general’s recent tour of the courts in New Providence.

A leaking roof at the COA has been an issue for quite some time now; however, Mrs. Maynard-Gibson affirmed that current refurbishments are addressing that issue.

“As we speak, the roof in the COA is being repaired. It has been a nagging issue for quite some time, but current refurbishments to the roof are about to change that,” she said.

Mrs. Maynard-Gibson noted that new plans for the COA also include expansion of the facilities to provide judges with adequate working space.

“There will be expansion onto another floor here at the COA. What will happen is that this new floor will make it possible for every judge to have a court and chamber,” she said.

Mrs. Maynard-Gibson also noted that facilities for the COA registry will be expanded as well.
