CIBC FirstCaribbean Bahamas has joined the fight against cancer in The Bahamas.
Staff, their friends and family will show their support on September 30 at 6:30 am, with a 1-kilometre fun walk.
All donations received will be matched by the bank and all proceeds will go toward the Cancer Society of The Bahamas.
Managing Director, Marie Rodland-Allen said, “The event promises to be exciting. Hundreds of staff have signed up their friends and family, and we are looking forward to matching their donations and passing on the proceeds to help in the fight against cancer. There are cancer survivors all over The Bahamas, many from within our organisation, and we are pleased that we can help in this way.”
Walkers will begin at the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre, down to the Cable Beach Post Office and back to Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre.
Participants will be treated to several fun activities, including Zumba, Junkanoo. It addition, there will be food, fun, camaraderie and lots of excitement.
Building on the 16 years during which parent company, CIBC, has been at the forefront of supporting research to find a cure for cancer through its title sponsorship of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Run for the Cure, CIBC FirstCaribbean is organizing this year’s event in the Caribbean as an activity for its staff, their friends and family, with plans to partner with organizations supporting those affected by cancer to open the event to the public from 2013.
In the 17 territories in which CIBC FirstCaribbean operates in the Caribbean, over 3,000 employees, friends and family will join friends of Team CIBC in 60 different run sites across Canada, who will take part in Canada’s CIBC Run for the Cure.
Causes dedicated to the fight against cancer in over 18 countries, including The Bahamas, stand to benefit from donations.
In the Bahamas, CIBC FirstCaribbean has a history supporting the fight against several types of cancer. The Bank’s employees participated in Denim Day hosted by an insurance company. It has also supported the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Group and the Cancer Society’s Stride for Life Walk.
The planning committee is working feverishly to plan a successful event and thanks its key partners for their support. Chelsea’s Choice will provide water for the walkers, The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) will supply a police escort and Doctors Hospital will provide ambulance services.
