The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) was unveiled yesterday as the title partner for the country’s biggest supporting event, the newly renamed IAAF/BTC World Relays Bahamas 2015.
BTC joined the World Relays’ sponsors as the highest rank within the Local Organising Committee’s (LOC) sponsorship programme.
BTC’s CEO Leon Williams said the company’s $250,000 investment in the relays demonstrates its commitment to not just build a better company but a better Bahamas.
“BTC deems it a privilege to be a title sponsor of the IAAF World Relays,” he said.
“It was not a stretch to sponsor the IAAF Relays particularly because of the success that took place in 2014. We are very honoured to be title partner of this event and on behalf of the some 800 employees that BTC has, we say thank you for giving us this opportunity.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr. Daniel Johnson said based on the success of last year’s IAAF relays, this year is set to be “bahamazing.”
“This year we are sure that it will be better as last year we did simply amazing,” he said.
“We made it through and we want to show everyone our brand. We didn’t only launch the Bahamas World Relays 2014, but we announced The Bahamas going into the sports industry that is a multi-billion dollar industry all over the world. For the first time we move from just a player on the field who doesn’t get any royalties to now being the country on the table who will now get the economic impact.”
Earlier this week, the LOC announced the Caribbean Bottling Company Limited through Coca-Cola and Atlantic Medical as national partners. Bahamas Waste and Commonwealth Brewery Limited along with a few others were all announced as national suppliers.
The IAAF/BTC World Relays Bahamas 2015 will take place at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium from May 2 – 3. More than 1,000 athletes and officials representing some 47 countries are expected to take part in the two day competition.
