Employees at the Bahamas Oil Refinery Company (BORCO) were recently awarded with a safety award for having worked one million hours without a “Lost Time Injury” since February 2011.
This means that there were no injuries received while at work that were severe enough to require an employee miss a day or longer of work, which is phenomenal news for BORCO.
President Global Marine Terminals Buckeye Khalid Muslih, SVP flew down to personally congratulate and award the staff at their in-house presentations.
In addition to awarding the Asset Team as a whole for this safety record, each department was recognized for the hours contributed to setting this unheard of record.
The Administrative Department (Human Resources, IT, Administration and Finance) achieved 109,000 hours without injury, the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Department achieved 103,000 hours, Land Operations Department achieved 292,000 hours, Marine Operations Department achieved 314,000 hours and the Maintenance Department achieved 182,000 hours.
“We are proud of our employees achieving a milestone of working 1,000,000 hours without a lost time injury,” BORCO Vice President International Operations (Buckeye Bahamas) Robert Gaffney said.
“It demonstrates their commitment to working safely and looking out for one another. It also aligns with Buckeye’s mission and unwavering commitment to safety. Our goal each day is for employees to return home to their families at the end of the day in the same condition or better than when they arrived.”
Certain departments have also gone years without any recordable injuries, these include the Administrative Department, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Department have all gone over five years injury free.
Achieving this amount of time with no injury is a very proud moment for BORCO, and everyone at the company looks forward to the next million hours with no injuries.
