Another prison officer arraigned on drug charges

Less than a week later and another prison officer has been arraigned on drug charges.

The accused, 21- year- old, Dennis Watson and his cousin 23-year-old Jamal Cartwright, were charged before Deputy Chief Magistrate, Subusola Swain, on one count each of possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply.

The court heard that on Friday October 12, in New Providence, the men were found in possession of 9.5 ounces of suspected marijuana.

Both pleaded guilty to the charge and as a result were fined $2,000 or one-year imprisonment.

The magistrate further ordered the drugs be destroyed and the convictions to be recorded.

The men had no previous convictions.

Watson was represented by Allen Emmanuel and Cartwright by Tony Scriven.

Last Tuesday, 27-year-old, Antonio Harrison Cash was arraigned before Deputy Chief Magistrate, Subusola Swain, on one count of possession of dangerous drugs, namely 11 ounces of Indian hemp.

The Doyle Street resident pleaded guilty.

The 2-year prison officer was subsequently remanded for 3 months, along with a $2,000 fine or an additional 3 months’ imprisonment.
