More than four men have been arraigned on rape charges in the magistrates’ court over the past three weeks, and on Wednesday another one was added to that list.
Tavon Williams, 31, of Soldier Road appeared before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez in Court Number One. He is accused of raping a 19-year-old woman.
According to police, Williams had sex with the woman against her will on June 30.
While he was not required to enter a plea, Williams told the court, “I have two young, lovely daughters who live alone with me. This situation isn’t how it looks, it wasn’t like that. It wasn’t rape.”
Williams was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) until today when a bail hearing will take place at 1:00 p.m.
Williams is the second man to be arraigned in connection with this matter.
Last Tuesday his co-accused 21-year-old Christopher Butler of McKinney Drive was called on to answer to the same charge.
After a spate of home invasions and rapes gripped residents in the eastern and western communities for six straight weeks, police officials vowed to bring the culprits to justice.
