U.S. Ambassador-Designate Herschel Walker, 63, and his wife Julie arrived in The Bahamas on Wednesday afternoon touching down from Miami at the Jet Nassau Terminal shortly after 2pm on a Falcon 50 aircraft. They were met by officials of the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Director General of Foreign Affairs Jerusa Ali and Acting Chief of Protocol Celeste Evans-Williams. Present was U.S. Deputy Charge d’Affaires Kimberly Furnish, and her husband Mr. Michael Dowgiewicz and other senior officials of the US Embassy. Officials presented welcome gifts of a football, bouquet of flowers, and also Bahamian books, as they disembarked. Walker will be the first US Ambassador to serve in The Bahamas in 14 years. The last to serve was Nicole Avant who demitted office in November of 2011. Mr. Walker’s presentation of his official credentials to the Governor-General will begin his tour-of-duty as an accredited Ambassador to The Bahamas.
