Police officials have confirmed that the woman, who was believed to have been abducted during an armoured truck heist at a local web shop on Sunday, is now a suspect in that robbery.
Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Superintendent Paul Rolle said investigators have gathered enough information during their preliminary work to lead them to believe that the woman was in on the plot all along.
“We have reports of a female that we thought may have been abducted,” he said. “But our investigations are progressing right now causing us to believe that a female may have been involved in this attempted armed robbery as well.
“So we are following some leads in that regard and we will know for sure soon. She is a suspect.”
The incident occurred shortly before noon at Island Game near the Budget Meat Mart grocery store at the intersection of Cowpen Road and Faith Avenue South.
According to police reports, workers from an armoured vehicle company were performing a routine operation at the establishment when they were approached by four individuals armed with high power assault rifles and at least a handgun.
Supt. Rolle said police are now looking for the woman and added that there is no indication as to whether this woman worked at that Island Game web shop that was robbed.
A short time after this incident police found that woman’s silver-coloured Nissan Altima in the area of Seven Hills engulfed in flames.
A police officer is believed to be a suspect in a brazen daylight armed robbery Sunday, is in hospital recovering from gunshot wounds.
“We believe that he may have also been involved in that,” Supt. Rolle added. “We haven’t yet spoken to him but he is being treated for his injuries at the hospital under police guard.”
The suspects reportedly got away with an undetermined amount of cash – none of it recovered by authorities so far.
Active investigations continue.
