Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe announced plans for the upcoming independence celebrations yesterday, which will be held under the theme “Our Children, Our Future.”
Minister Wilchcombe said during a press conference, that the main focus of this year’s independence events revolves around youth, education, sports and community development.
“These events are a positive way to show the youth the love for this country. It also teaches them ways to make The Bahamas a better place,” Minister Wilchcombe said.
A number of events are planned for July 3 – 23. The events include National Pride Day, the Beat Retreat and the Independence Children’s Concert and much more.
National Pride Day will be held on July 3, which will focus on the nation’s children. The children will be provided with food, drinks, music and great company.
The Beat Retreat, which will be held on July 5 in Rawson and Parliament Squares, is also going to be a huge part of the independence celebrations.
According to Minister Wilchcombe the Beat Retreat will be better than before, with performances by the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Band.
The People’s Love and Unity Rush is another wonderful event that will be held on July 10.
All events will allow Bahamians and tourists to participate in celebrating the country’s 42nd birthday.
