PM’s Mother-In-Law Dead At 81

Prime Minister Perry Christie’s mother-in-law, Trixie Hanna has died in hospital.

Hanna passed away at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) yesterday at 6:50 a.m.

She was 81.

The Journal understands that Hanna was surrounded by her family members, including daughter and wife of Prime Minister Christie, Bernadette Christie as well as several close friends.

Hanna, who was born in Deadman’s Cay, Long Island, was predeceased by her husband Rev. Howard Hanna.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Christie and Paula Hanna-Miller; four grandchildren, Shane Russell, Steffan, Alexandria, and Adam Christie and four great grandchildren, Ashleigh, Savannah, Amber and Saij Russell.

She is also survived by three sisters, Virgie Carroll of Deadman’s Cay, Long Island, Carnetta Burrows and Dillis Storr; one brother, Hinton Burrows of Hallandale, Florida and a host of other relatives and friends.

“Trixie Hanna was well loved by all for her open heart, warm hospitality, no-nonsense candour and one of a kind personality,” the family said in a press statement.

“The family wishes to thank all the many well wishers for their prayers and acts of kindness during the time of her brief hospitalisation and are also grateful for your expressions of condolences at this time.”

The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) also paid tribute to Hanna yesterday.

“The PLP honours her work and commitment to the ideals and tenants of the party and remains grateful for the vitally important role she played in the policy development and direction of the party as a Stalwart Councillor and member of the National General Council,” PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts said in a press statement.

“On behalf of the Progressive Liberal Party, I express my heartfelt condolences to daughters, Paula and Bernadette and to her grandchildren Steffan, Alexandria and Adam Christie, Shane Russell and her siblings during this difficult period. I am confident that God’s grace is sufficient.”

Opposition Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis also extended condolences to the Hanna, Burrows and Christie families.
“May God comfort you during this difficult time,” he said.

Hanna will be laid to rest this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Parish on Blue Hill Road.

Interment will be at the St. Agnes Cemetery on Nassau Street.
