An argument turned deadly on one of the Family Islands yesterday afternoon after a man chopped his relative to death with a machete.
The incident, which occurred in Curtis, Exuma, pushes the country’s homicide count to 69.
Police told The Bahama Journal that the altercation occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m.
According to police reports, the two men were having a dispute when one of the men grabbed a machete and chopped the other several times to the back of the head.
The victim, who authorities identify as Ricardo Rolle, died on the scene
A suspect was arrested a short time later near Rolleville, Exuma.
Officers with the Central Detective Unit (CDU) are on Exuma assisting local authorities with their investigation.
Monday’s homicide was Exuma’s first for the year.
One week ago a young man was killed during an altercation with a friend.
Twenty-two-year-old Jevon Mullings was stabbed to death by his friend.
The incident occurred in Union Village.
The main suspect in Mullings’ death – 17-year-old Michael Defrend – was stabbed as well and taken to hospital following the ordeal.
However, Defrend managed to escape from hospital on June 28 and remains at large.
