Two men were brought before the Magistrates’ Court on Monday to face charges in connection with two recent murders.
Appearing before Magistrate Samuel McKinney was 25-year-old Shakatouri Thompson of #123 Major Road.
Thompson was charged with the murder of 33-year-old Nadia Tracy Cartwright, the mother of four was killed on August 11.
He was also charged with the armed robbery and the attempted murder of Henry Burnside.
Cartwright, the passenger of a motorbike driven by Burnside at the time of her death, was shot to the head and run over by a car on Blue Hill Road opposite the entrance to Yellow Elder Gardens.
According to police reports, the occupants of a grey Nissan Tiida opened fire and later stole the trail motorbike worth $4,000.
Cartwright was one of three people who were killed on that day following the bloodiest weekend recorded in recent times.
While in court, Thompson maintained his innocence and claimed that he was being falsely accused.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Shaquille Bodie of Dunmore Street was charged with the murder of 16-year-old Carlos Taylor.
Taylor, aka ‘Yellow’, was a student of C.R. Walker Senior High School.
He was shot multiple times on August 2 in the area of Dunmore and Fleming Streets.
The victim was reportedly armed with a hand gun at the time of his death.
While inside court, Bodie begged to not be sent to Her Majesty’s Prison expressing fear with prisoners who killed his brother, adding that the victim Taylor, is believed to be the nephew of a well-known drug lord.
Magistrate McKinney made note of the complaint and assured that a note will be sent to the superintendent of the prison to ensure his safety while on remand.
The men were not require to enter pleas to the charges and were both remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons (HMP).
The matters will proceed via a Voluntary Bill of Indictment, (VBI) both suspects can apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
The men will return to court on October 28.
