A leading jewelry company has teamed up with the government to provide training opportunities for a group of Bahamians.
Diamonds International Bahamas last week announced its partnership with the Ministry of Labour and National Insurance to launch a Rotational Leadership Programme.
The programme will give employees of Diamonds International a chance to train for two years in any of its 225 locations in the Caribbean, Central and North America and Africa.
Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Honduras, Belize and Mexico have already agreed to accept Bahamian employees.
“This Rotational Leadership Programme is designed to improve and develop the skills and leadership capacity of employees so as to enhance the quality of service they provide to their valued customers. As we are aware, customer service is key, particularly in The Bahamas where we are service-driven,” Labour and National Insurance Minister Gibson said during Thursday’s big announcement.
Head of Operations at Diamonds International Bahamas, Gili Davis is equally excited about the programme, which starts off with 21 people; seven to nine of whom will go to foreign countries. This includes spending time in Alaska, where participants will undergo a nearly two year training course top positions such as managers.
Mr. David said they are looking for individuals with young, fresh, ambitious minds to pilot the programme.
“We strongly believe that by putting in place such an initiative, this will allow us to develop the next generation of leaders in our company. We will get compatible, competent, strong leaders, but more importantly Bahamians who will be the face of our company,” he said.
In the past, Diamonds International has sponsored many events including Miss Bahamas. It is also the first private sector organisation to partner with the NTA, which will hold its second graduation exercise later this month.
The NTA’s goal is to successfully prepare its participants for entry into the workforce.
Minister Gibson encouraged other private companies to follow the company’s lead to train and develop their employees to collectively build the country and ultimately improve the skills and quality of the workforce in The Bahamas.
He also implored the first four candidates to take full advantage of the rotational programme, as only the best will be selected.
