It is uncertain whether he is the lone suspect, but yesterday a Freeport man appeared alone in a magistrate’s court charged in connection with a multi-million dollar drug field discovery on Grand Bahama last week.
Anthon Thomas,22, appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes on charges of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply and conspiracy to cultivate dangerous drugs.
According to police reports, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) while on patrol last Monday discovered more than 160,000 marijuana plants growing in the pine forest area of East Grand Bahama.
Police report that some 27 marijuana plots were found scattered over a two-mile radius of undeveloped land.
Officers found 167,000 marijuana plants that have an estimated street value of $16.8 million, police have said.
Police also recovered two high-powered weapons with ammunition at that scene. No arrests were made at the time of the discovery.
In court Monday, Thomas pleaded not guilty and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons until June 9 when his trial is expected get underway.
