A 15-year-old girl became the country’s latest homicide victim after she was shot outside a bar in Grand Bahama early Sunday morning.
Alexis A. Smith, of Holmes Rock, was shot to the head outside Platinum Lounge in Kings Subdivision around 3:00 a.m. Saturday by a man known to police.
The man reportedly fled the scene shortly after.
Witnesses said the girl was seen inside the nightclub prior to the incident.
When police arrived they met the teen’s lifeless body, clad in a mustard coloured tights and black shirt, lying on the ground outside the establishment with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Her parents pulled up soon after and had to be consoled as their child’s body was being removed from the scene.
Police have since taken a man into custody, who sources say was known to the victim.
Meanwhile, police on that island have also uncovered 18.5 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $18,500.
According to reports, around 9:00 p.m. Friday, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), acting on intelligence, went to an unfurnished apartment on Santa Maria and Yorkshire Drive where they found an unlicensed firearm and the drugs.
The gun was a black and grey .270 caliber rifle.
The gun and the four white plastic bags of marijuana were seized.
No arrests have been made.
Police are urging members of the public with any information about any of these incidents to contact them at 919 or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS.
