RBC Finco’s Managing Director Tanya McCartney will step down from her position in May, the company has announced.
Ms. McCartney has worked with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) for eight years. She has served as RBC Finco’s Managing Director and Vice President for the past six years.
The announcement came at the bank’s Annual General Meeting Wednesday night at which time RBC President and Country Head Nathaniel Beneby Jr. thanked Ms. McCartney for her service to the company.
“During her tenure, RBC FINCO experienced growth in a particularly challenging operating environment and Tanya is credited with developing a high performing team and maintaining a culture of excellence within the RBC FINCO organization,” Mr. Beneby said.
“Her considerable contributions to the success of RBC FINCO are evidenced by the organisation’s results. On behalf of the RBC family, I wish to express my sincere thanks to Tanya and wish her all the best as she moves forward in her career.
Mr. Beneby also announced that following Ms. McCartney’s departure, he will assume direct responsibility for RBC Finco’s Main Branch on an interim basis until a replacement for Ms. McCartney has been identified.
Ms. McCartney’s resignation takes effect on May 16th.
Sources close to Ms. McCartney say she decided to leave the bank in order to pursue “other career opportunities.”
Ms. McCartney was the youngest person to serve as RBC’s FINCO Managing Director.
“I have truly enjoyed my time with RBC and I wish the leadership continued success as RBC
FINCO maintains its position as the brand of choice for Residential Mortgages,” Ms. McCartney said.
“I will continue to support the successful implementation of our 2014 initiatives and I extend thanks to Mr. Beneby and all of my colleagues at RBC for the years of team work and camaraderie.”
She joined RBC Royal Bank of Canada in June of 2006 as Regional Manager for Compliance for The Bahamas and Caribbean with responsibility for eight countries in the Caribbean (Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Barbados and 4 Eastern Caribbean countries).
She entered the financial services sector in 1999 as legal counsel and compliance officer for a private bank and has worked at a number of international financial institutions.
Prior to this, she served as Assistant Counsel in the Office of the Attorney-General, obtaining experience in civil litigation as well as in criminal prosecution.
She is an attorney who was admitted to the Bar of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Bar of England and Wales in 1995.
She received a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) from The London School of Economics and Political Science, U.K., where she specialized in commercial and corporate law; a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from The University of Reading, U.K.; and she is also a graduate of The College of The Bahamas.
She was also the youngest female to be appointed to the Senate of The Bahamas.
She serves as president of The Bahamas Institute of Financial Services (BIFS), and a member of the Zonta Club of Nassau.
