A 25-old-man of Acklins Island is detained in hospital in stable condition under heavy police guard after he was shot during an arrest on Tuesday.
According to reports, shortly after 1:00 p.m., police armed with a warrant of apprehension issued by the court, went to the home of the suspect in Acklins to arrest him for failing to attend court.
During their efforts to apprehend the suspect, the suspect attacked the police with a cutlass causing the police to resort to the use of force by shooting the suspect in the leg.
The suspect was taken to the local clinic and later airlifted to hospital in New Providence, where he is detained in stable condition.
The suspect was wanted for appear in court to answer charges of assault with a deadly weapon, causing damage and resisting arrest.
Meanwhile, back in New Providence quick response by police has resulted in the capture of three men after they were caught red-handed breaking into a home on Tuesday.
According to reports, shortly before 11:00 p.m., police received a call of burglary in progress at a home located on Podoleo Street.
When police arrived at the scene, the spotted the three suspects ages, 24, 17 and 16 years, fleeing from a rear door of a home they had just broken into.
The three suspects were arrested and a number of stolen items were found in their possession.
During the arrest one of the suspects was shot in the leg.
The injured suspect is detained in hospital in stable condition under heavy police guard.
