A young man is dead and his handgun confiscated following a police involved shooting shortly before 2:00 a.m. Saturday.
Preliminary reports indicate that police were on patrol, when they heard a barrage of gunshots coming from the area of Allen Drive, off Carmichael Road.
The officers responded and observed a young man among group of persons assembled at a party with a handgun in his hand.
The young man opened fire at the officers and an exchange of gun fire erupted, resulting in the young man being fatally shot by police.
Sources tell the Bahama Journal that the man had been drinking and became uncontrollable.
Sources also tell the Journal that the man had been arguing with someone at the party, left and had not too long returned before the police got there.
A handgun along with quantity ammunition was confiscated from the deceased by the police.
Body Found
Meantime, an autopsy is being conducted for a body that was found in the South Beach Canal.
Police say officials found the body found around 9:00 a.m. Sunday.
Investigations are ongoing.
