Gov’t Relocates Registration To Urban Renewal Centres

It seems as if the cries of those trainee hopefuls who have had to battle the sun and long lines for the past two days in hopes of registering for the National Training Institute have not fallen on deaf ears as registration will now be taking place at various Urban Renewal Centres, according to the government.

In a press release issued by Ministry of Labour officials late Tuesday, they announced that registration will take place at nine Urban Renewal Centres beginning from yesterday.

Those centres are Bains Town and Grants Town Urban Renewal Centre, Centreville Urban Renewal Centre, Englerston East Urban Renewal Centre, Englerston West Urban Renewal Centre, Pinewood Gardens Urban Renewal Centre, Nassau Village Urban Renewal Centre, Fort Charlotte Urban Renewal Centre, Kemp Road Urban Renewal Centre and Fox Hill Urban Renewal Centre.

People going into register are asked to bring their passport and NIB card as a means of identification.

Many people complained about the long wait when the Bahama Journal visited the institute on Monday.

Kirkland Neely, a trainee hopeful, told the Journal he was at the institute – located on Gladstone Road – from 6:00 a.m. Monday and up 3:00 p.m. he had not been able to register.

“The system that they have is not manual,” he said at the time.

“They don’t have anyone outside to explain to the people why the process is running so slow. The workers inside are unprofessional. We are trying to ask them what is going on and they don’t want to answer you. They are taking three people for an hour. They are moving too slow. It’s ridiculous that they only have five people in there serving people.”

Nikki Williamson another trainee hopeful decided to wait until the afternoon to arrive at the institute.

“The process is moving great but seeing that I just came I have a long line to wait,” she said. “I am looking for a job that will help me to grow in a profession that will probably become my career in the future.”

Davina Moss was also optimistic about the process.

“Besides the sun, the process seems to be moving along but everyone as being served as they come. This means first come, first served,” he said.

Officials say training will take place in Hospitality/Tourism, Retail Operations and Sales, Office Procedures and Automotive Service and Care.
