Two men were killed and four people shot yesterday in separate drive-by shootings that spawned a car chase, a shoot-out with police and multiple arrests.
The shootings occurred in the Kemp Road area. Passersby and area residents were sent ducking for cover as armed thugs fired gunshots into the air before opening fire on the victims.
Police said two of five suspects in a white Dodge Ram truck hopped out and opened fire on the separate groups.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anthony Ferguson told The Bahama Journal that the first incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. just north of Parkgate Road.
It was at this scene that the suspects opened fire on two men.
One of the victims died at the scene. His body was still on his house’s front porch when police arrived on the scene.
The second victim, whom police believe was not the intended target, was shot in the head. He died in hospital.
ACP Ferguson said those same suspects, who were wearing masks at the time, then drove to Montgomery Avenue, Kemp Road where they opened fire on some men who were standing in front of a bar.
“Those persons were having a holiday get together. They then fired upon those persons. Four people were injured at that location and transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital,” ACP Ferguson said.
The suspects then led police on a high-speed chase.
Mobile Patrol Unit officers spotted the vehicle on Abundant Life Road and pursued the vehicle. The suspects opened fire on police and police subsequently returned fire, ACP Ferguson said.
Police then chased the car into the Nassau Village area where the suspects crashed into a fence on Taylor Street.
One suspect was shot.
Police caught that suspect and retrieved a high-powered weapon.
ACP Ferguson said authorities later caught a second suspect after cordoning off the area. They also retrieved a handgun.
Police then initiated a manhunt in the Nassau Village area for the remaining suspects. They took several men into custody.
These latest incidents mark the country’s fourth murder in two days.
