The two men who police believe is behind the attempted murder of one their own were charged in a magistrate’s court yesterday.
Maurice Armbrister 23, of Faith Gardens, Marshall Road and 21-year-old Excell Josey of Balls Alley, Shirley Street were charged with the attempted murder and armed robbery of Superintendent Clayton Fernander.
Dockets indicate that on April 10, while being concerned together, the pair by unlawful means of harm did intentionally and unlawfully attempt to cause the death of Fernander.
Additionally the dockets state that on that same day the two were armed with a handgun in an attempt to rob Fernander.
Armbrister was also charged with a possession of an unlicensed firearm namely a silver and black smith and Wesson .45 pistol without being the holder of a special license to possess it.
Additionally, he was charged with possession of ammunition such as .45 bullets without being the holder of a firearms certificate.
It was late last Wednesday night 53-year-old Fernander, a veteran police officer, was shot multiple times outside his St. Vincent Road home.
Fernander has since been receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Florida.
The pair was not required to enter a plea to the charges before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez.
Armbrister’s attorney Roberto Reckley requested both men be allowed to see a doctor alleging that both had beaten by police while in custody.
Mr. Reckley advised that Armbrister still had bruises to his face from those beatings.
It was also alleged that the men were denied food and neither was allowed access to their attorney.
Chief Magistrate Gomez instructed that the men be taken to see a doctor.
The matter will continue by way of voluntary bill of indictment on June 5.
