A 27-year-old Key West Street man was charged in court yesterday with murdering Rodney Sila.
Donovan Brown is accused of killing Sila on January 30.
Sila was shot to death. He was the country’s 10th homicide victim.
Brown was not allowed to enter a plea to the charge and his case was sent to the Supreme Court via voluntary bill of indictment.
The matter was adjourned until July 2.
In the courtroom, Brown’s attorney Ian Cargill told the judge that his client was in court at the time of the incident.
“If he is in court your worship, it would not have been possible for him to commit the crime. It’s impossible for someone to be two places at one time,” he said.
However, the magistrate continued on with the arraignment.
Brown, in turn, told Magistrate Gomez that he suffers from seizures and would like to get his medication.
The defendant asked the magistrate to ensure that he be placed somewhere where he could get fresh air.
The magistrate then told Brown, he would see what could be done.
Brown will be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) until his July court hearing.
Dion Brice 38, of Cyprus Court also appeared before Magistrate Gomez to face charges of aiding and abetting.
Brice is accused of helping another man attempt to rob and kill Marguerite Oltimae on February 3.
The 54-year-old storekeeper was shot in the head and killed at her store opposite Kelly’s Lumber Yard.
The defendant was not required to enter a plea and the matter was forwarded to the Supreme Court via voluntary bill of indictment.
Brice will be remanded at HMP until July 1 for his court case.
