Former President of the Bahamas Contractors Association, Stephen Wrinkle, was yesterday sentenced to a one-year prison term and a $1,000 fine – a month after he was found guilty of stealing electricity from The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC).

Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis handed down the sentence and remanded Wrinkle to Her Majesty’s Prisons immediately.

Wrinkle was convicted for stealing electricity from BEC back on January 22.

He has denied stealing power from BEC for more than two years at his Bay Parl Building on Parliament Street.

Wrinkle’s attorney Jomo Campbell asked the magistrate for leniency for his client noting that he had never been convicted of a crime and because of his age.

Mr. Campbell further noted that Wrinkle, 61, is the father of three children and the sole provider for his family.

The Eastern Road resident was sentenced to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.

If he fails to pay his fine, Magistrate Rolle-Davis said that an additional three months will be added to his sentence.
