Police say they have a 32-year-old man in their custody for
questioning in connection with the killing of 12-year-old Adriel
Moxey. He was found in the Faith Gardens area and taken into
custody around 10 a.m. Thursday.
The capture comes after community support and surveillance
efforts on a track road in the Faith Avenue area where her
partially nude body was found Wednesday.
Police said Thursday they could not confirm whether she was
strangled or raped but when she was found a cloth was around
her neck and she was wearing only a top. An autopsy will
determine how she died.
Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander explaining how they
found her body said a team of officers searched the general area
along with members of their drone and canine units.
“We had three drones in the entire area and with two canine units
and a number of officers. They discovered a young girl who was
lifeless lying on her back with just her top on. On further
examination of the body, it was discovered that a piece of cloth
was tied around her neck.”
EMS officials confirmed her dead at the scene. Although police
did not confirm her identity at the time, they believed it to be Adriel
from the description they had of her. Her identity was
subsequently confirmed on Thursday.
Commissioner Fernander made this appeal. “Please come
forward with whatever information. This is one of our little darlings
who has not lived yet. That individual who is responsible should
not spend another hour out there.”

He said that he has special teams to gather information. “I want
us to move quickly and follow that information and I believe we
are on the right track based on the information we are receiving at
this time.”
“We will not leave any stone unturned until we find this individual.
I take this one personally.”
Commissioner Fernander called on Bahamians to rally together in
general. “We continue to reach out to members of the public to be
aware of your surroundings…safety tips, when it comes to our
young people, pay attention to them and parents we have to do
just that.”
The discovery has brought sadness and anger throughout the
country with prime minister Philip Davis, his wife Anne Marie
Davis and education minister Glenys Hanna-Martin all issuing
statements. Mrs. Hanna-Martin called it an “outrage of the worst
kind” and every parent’s nightmare.” The prime minister vowed to
turn the country upside down to find her killer.
Three Marco Alerts rang out on Wednesday. In addition to the one
for Adriel, there was one for 16-year-old Kayvanno Farrington and
ten-year-old Evan Olisma. The police reported that Farrington and
Olisma were both found alive and well on Thursday.
