Using the principle of the “purpose driven life” Free National Movement
(FNM) Chairman Dr. Duane Sands on Tuesday hours after Prime Minister
Davis acknowledged that he is not willing to reveal the names of political
donors and that campaign finance reform is not a priority for his
administration accused Mr. Davis of
He said, “It is clear that after three long years the PLP is lacking in vision and
direction because they have no aspiration, higher purpose or mission for The
Bahamian people; their only purpose is money and power.”
“Ya see, because they never had any real purpose,” said Dr. Sands. “The PLP
keep abandoning their election promises big time. They promised legislation
to deal with campaign financing and now the Prime Minister says that a
matter vital to improving the quality of democracy is not important to him.
“Ya see, what is important to him is getting on a plane travelling around the
world having fun and living his best life. To finance his luxury lifestyle and to
pay for hundreds of millions for PLP consultants, Brave Davis keeps on raising
taxes and hiking fees. When there is no purpose, no direction and no vision,
the people perish and anything goes,” said Dr. Sands.
He accused the “financially reckless PLP” of mortgaging the future of even
great grand children and plunging the country deeper into debt with certain
countries for the “wrong infrastructure projects.”
The FNM Chairman was also critical of the governments to build a new
hospital on a “contaminated polluted site” as opposed to transforming the
Princess Margaret Hospital into a “modern healthcare facility.”
He said, “They promised shelters for domestic abuse victims over and over
and yet they are failing these victims,” said Dr. Sands while using a recent
Tribune article on the subject that suggested the Davis Administration does
not prioritize women’s issues which may come back to hurt them during the
election as he drove home his point.
Dr. Sands also responded to comments made by PLP Chairman Fred Mitchell
who appealed to voters warning them not to return the FNM to power during
the 2026 elections because “the FNM are cruel masters” who would victimize
those that do not support them.
Dr. Sands said, “for Fred Mitchell and the PLP to talk about victimization is
like someone famous for lying giving someone else advice on telling the truth.”
He said, “The purpose of power or office is to serve the common good, but the
PLP doesn’t even pretend anymore because all they are interested in is getting
things for dey self. And mind you, only connected PLP’s are getting everything
they want, even former PLP Cabinet Ministers are talking about how they
getting dissed and can’t get their phone calls returned, so imagine what is
going on in every constituency around the country.
In closing the opposition Chairman said there are “all kinds of things on the
government balance sheet that is not making sense, because fundamentally
this is a government without purpose.”
