Prime Minister Philip Davis said Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, who made
another threat to flatten The Bahamas, is “misguided” and “misinformed.”
DeSantis said the United States would flatten The Bahamas if it ever fired rockets
on Florida.
While addressing his concerns on the matter, Davis said DeSantis is misinformed
and lack knowledge of the relationship between The Bahamas and United States.
“We rely on the U.S. to assist us in the event of any sort of invasion on us, so I
think he’s obviously misguided, and he needs to step back, look at what our
relationship is. He ought to realize that in the state of Florida, you have more
Bahamian diaspora that’s engaged in a political landscape there than ever and he
should speak to them to understand what our true relationship is because I don’t
think he’s familiar with the relationship,” Davis said.
As he addressed a campaign last weekend DeSantis said, “Can you imagine just
after our 9/11, if three weeks later, people were demanding that we had a ceasefire
against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban? We would never have done that. And I think to
myself as Governor of Florida, if we had, if someone in The Bahamas was
launching missiles into Fort Lauderdale, we would not accept that for a minute. We
would go in and we would flatten them in no time certain.”
A statement was issued by the U.S. Embassy in Nassau following DeSantis’ initial
comments which said it “regrets” if DeSantis’ comments suggest anything other
than a close relationship between the U.S. and The Bahamas.
