A retired corrections officer was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 on Monday after
his attorney Bjorn Ferguson made an emergency bail application to the Supreme
Court.
Sixty-six-year-old Jeffrey Sherman was arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court after he
allegedly shot his 62-year-old girlfriend Bridgette Ingraham during a domestic dispute
last Thursday.
According to police reports, sometime around 10:30 p.m. on August 24, Sherman and
Ingraham, while at Ingraham’s home on Sapodilla Boulevard, Pinewood Gardens, got
into a verbal altercation; subsequently Sherman produced a firearm and shot her to
both arms. He then left the home and fled the area in an unknown direction. Ingraham
was transported to the hospital via EMS.
When he appeared before Magistrate Racquel Whyms, Sherman was charged with
two counts of attempted murder as during the ordeal he also allegedly attempted to
shoot Ingraham’s son Sean Pugh; he was also charged with possession of a firearm
with intent to endanger life.
Sherman was not required to enter a plea and although the Magistrate denied him bail
during the arraignment, Justice Cheryl Grant Thompson granted bail in an emergency
hearing. Sherman must sign in at the Carmichael Road Police Station before 6 p.m.
three times a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He will also be electronically
monitored.
Sherman returns to court on October 31 where he will be served with a voluntary bill
of indictment which will fast track his case to the Supreme Court.
