A major shake-up within the various law enforcement organisations in The Bahamas is expected soon, as the new Christie administration seeks to wipe out crime.

National Security Minister Dr. Bernard Nottage said Friday that the government is now on a mission to ensure that the government and all crime fighting agencies are on the same page.

“I think that over the course of the next several weeks you will see some changes, some reorganisation of several agencies in terms of their functioning, the policies they are implementing and we are hoping, and expecting that this would have a very beneficial effect on serious crimes in the first instance and on petty crimes in the long run.”

In his first week as national security minister Dr. Nottage held meetings with top law enforcement officials, noting that he is concerned with the escalating crime levels.

“Over the past four days, I’ve been engaged with meeting with all those persons who are responsible for law enforcement in our country with officers to ensure that they have the resources they need, to review their policies, to see how they are functioning and to acquaint them with the (government’s) crime policies and to ensure that what they do is consistent with those policies,” he added.
