The Department of Labour is looking to hire some 100 individuals in collaboration with Ocean Club, Director of Labour John Pinder said at this past weekend at The Labour On The Blocks Job Fair on Rosetta Street.
He said, “there’s a new cruise line that will be coming here next year sometime. They want to develop Ocean Cay as a one-day resort initiative for the passengers of the ship. The construction has already commenced, but they need more skilled men.”
He added, “so, in an effort to ensure that Bahamians get an opportunity; we are hosting this job fair to see if they can find plumbers, carpenters, electricians, mason, and other basic construction jobs.”
According to Mr. Pinder, successful applicants will work for six consecutive weeks, take a week long break, and resume the same cycle for one year.
He said, “the emphasis was placed on ensuring that the persons who are spearheading this project, on behalf of the cruise line complies with our Employment Act.
“ Persons will be paid overtime and double time if necessary. This is also an opportunity for them to make quite a bit of money , because they’ll be housed free, they’ll be fed three meals a day, and they have maid service and free laundry service.”
Mr. Pinder said that interested applicants can stop by the Department of Labour on Rosetta street.
Proof of Bahamian citizenship and banking information is required.
