Laboratory services at the Rand Memorial Hospital were suspended this past weekend as the hospital’s management and technical teams continued to monitor the aftermath of a chemical spill which occurred in the Laboratory last Thursday morning.
The Management however has confirmed the full restoration of radiology services, and the cessation of referrals from General Practice to the Freeport Community Clinic.
Immediatelyfollowingthespill,environmentalchemistryexperts,anindependentHazmat company,aprivate chemist and the Department of Environmental Health Services were called in to mitigate the effects and clean the affected area.
A statement from The Public Hospitals Authority said, “the area was quickly contained and employees affected were seen by doctors on staff. No injuries were reported, and at no time were patients admitted on the hospital’s wards impacted.”
The statement said The Rand Memorial Hospital will continue to monitor the matter to ensure the sustained safety and health of patients and staff.
