A gruesome scene in Long Island over the weekend as a woman was killed and her mother seriously injured after the woman’s estranged husband attacked both women with a cutlass.
While police have not officially released the identity of the victims, The Bahama Journal has come to understand the deceased to be Eleanor Dean and the victim in hospital to be her mother Mildred.
According to police, shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday morning, a man armed with a cutlass entered a residence and chopped two females about the body causing serious injuries.
Dean died on scene and her mother was taken to the local clinic. The mother was later airlifted to New Providence.
Detectives from the capital flew to Long Island to conduct investigations.
Police said around 10:20 p.m. last night detectives arrested Philip Dean in Long Island without any incident.
The Bahama Journal also understands that the individual authorities are searching for in connection with this incident is the deceased’s estranged husband Philip Dean and the incident arose after a dispute between the couple.
The island’s MP Adrian Gibson, in a statement, said it was a sad and tragic day in Long Island.
He added that the community was overcome with emotion and gripped with the sadness that accompanies such tragic occurrences. Gibson extended his sympathies to the grieving family.
He closed by saying Bahamians must remember to work hand in hand to restore the love, serenity, peacefulness and tranquility that once existed on the islands.

Police are also looking for the suspects responsible for a shooting death on Baillou Hill Road on Friday.
According to reports, shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday, a man was in the area of the Bahamas Baptist Convention Office on Baillou Hill Road, when he was shot and died on the scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
In light of the two most recent incidents, the country’s murder count currently sits at 94 according to The Bahama Journal’s records.
