After much has been made of the Rosewood Hotel’s 2018 delayed opening President of Baha Mar and the Bahamian subsidiary of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Graeme Davis said the issue is not necessarily the fault of China Construction America (CCA).
Mr. Davis’ summarized the delay in what he called “schematic issues” as CTFE had no reservations about the building’s physical makeup itself.
His comments came while he appeared as a guest on the Love 97/JCN Talk Show “Jones and Co.”
“It’s not a CCA issue or a construction issue on being delayed it’s about us as a company in CTFE pausing and taking a moment saying let’s get it right, there was some valued engineering that went on in the past at Rosewood that we at CTFE was not pleased about,” he said.
“Looking back at in 2015 it was not the best Rosewood experience for us and when we had an opportunity to exit as we did.
“It was not a construction issue it was a design and programming concern, the quality of the construction is perfectly fine, it’s a matter of spending to add an additional pool area, additional restaurants and change what we want in the guest rooms.
Mr. Davis also revealed that CTFE is expected to inject an additional $35 million dollars into the completion of the Rosewood Hotel.
“Well it is important to make sure the physical amenities and the product and quality matches what the guests are expecting from SLS and the Rosewood, SLS will be opened up in the Fall 2017.
“Rosewood was a different story, there was a lacking of a pool space, not enough deck space, not enough restaurants for the daytime and guest room experience as well as the public areas.
“We are injecting an additional $35 million into making sure the quality of product matches what our Rosewood guests expects.
During the groundbreaking of the second phase of The Pointe project this weekend Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson revealed that casino workers for the resort began training this weekend and casino equipment will begin to be installed.
Earlier this month, former Baha Mar Director Dionisio D’Aguilar, said no travel agent or tour operator would book guests to stay at the property until they were sure it was ready.
Mr. D’Aguilar, now the FNM’s candidate for Freetown, said Rosewood’s announcement that its 200-room Baha Mar property will open only in Spring 2018 had only added to the confusion surrounding the multi-billion dollar development’s readiness.
