Two Killed In Plane Crash

Investigators from the Department of Civil Aviation are today on the scene of where a plane crashed Sunday in Bimini killing two people.

Details surrounding the incident are still be gathered, but preliminary reports indicate that the plane went down in bushes adjacent to the runway of the Bimini Airport which is located at the southern tip of the island.

The incident was reported shortly after 4:00p.m., Sunday.

Aviation officials at South Bimini Airport received a report of smoke in the bushes near the airport. Subsequent investigations revealed that a crash had occurred.

The aircraft, a PA-27 is a small twin-engine aircraft and is registration number is N63ZZ.

It is believed that the plane had taken off on a test run when it experienced some mechanical failure.

Two people are confirmed to have died in the crash including the pilot and a local mechanic.

Their identities are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
