Opposition Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis said that he is not concerned about addressing the issue of a rift within his party, in such times when crime is at an all time high, among other pertinent urgent national issues to tackle.
His comments comes on the heels of a reported ultimatum given to the opposition leader by at least six Members of Parliament, demanding that he either calls for a party convention to take place within the next 30 days, or they will move ahead with seeking to remove him as leader.
The MPs threatened to pursue a no confidence vote if Dr. Minnis neglects to hold the convention within that time.
Former Free National Movement Cabinet Member Tennyson Wells appeared as a guest on Love 97’s Daily Talk Show “Issues of the Day” said those individuals who are opposing Dr. Minnis expected him to already “fold up”.
When asked if he thought the MP’s would actually do away with Dr. Minnis, Mr. Wells expressed some doubt.
“I think that some of them don’t actually have the coup to do it. They are shaking in their boots right now because they expected him to fold. But if he stands strong all of them will run for the hills. If I was Minnis I wouldn’t move an inch,” said Mr. Wells.
Meanwhile, there are talks of others who are interested in Dr. Minnis’ post.
“An MP told me that Rollins asked him to support him for leader, because he can’t support Loretta. And Loretta don’t want him. Comedy errors, and people don’t think about the consequences of what they’re doing to the country. It’s personal,” said Mr. Wells.
Dr. Andre Rollins, a recent member of the FNM has now reportedly lost confidence in Dr. Minnis but at the same time is not a supporter of Long Island MP Loretta Butler-Turner who has expressed interest in becoming leader.
