Consistent with the commissioner’s policing priorities for 2015, police have taken another firearm out of the hands of criminals early Thursday morning.
According to reports, shortly after 1 a.m., a team of officers from the Firearm Tracing and Investigation Unit were on patrol, when they observed two suspicious males sitting in a Honda vehicle on Soldier Road.
Following a search of the vehicle officials found a nine millimetre pistol containing six rounds of ammunition.
Two men, ages 24 and 20, were taken into custody for questioning with reference to firearm possession, suspected stolen vehicle and murder.
Another island wide operation on Thursday resulted in the arrest of 12 persons for various criminal offences in a coordinated operation conducted by officers from the flying squad.
The suspects were arrested for various offenses including murder, possession of dangerous drugs, shop breaking and threats of death.
In the mobile division, saturation patrols with the intention to reduce crime and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activities, resulted in the arrest of seven persons over the past 24 hours for various minor and major offences.
Additionally, 23 drivers were cited for various traffic violations.
Police officials wish to reassure members of the public that they will continue with their relentless efforts to hunt down persons who continue to commit crime and will spare no efforts to bring them to justice.
