The College of The Bahamas (COB) campus came alive yesterday with the entrance of over 800 freshman students.

Students were shown around the campus and given tips to help them along their new journey.

An array of sponsors and businesses were also on campus to offer a number of services for the new college students.

Atlantis, Bank of the Bahamas (BOB), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), CIBC and The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) were among the list.

“What we did today was brought out our products and services and put together phone plans for the students,” said Marketing representative Lashawn Cartwritght.

“We know budgets are tight and the responses to the cell phone sales were very positive.”

COBUS President Alphonso Major says his 2013-2014 team is looking forward to all plans to ensure students feel the college is looking out for their best interest.

“I think the experience the students got today was something I haven’t seen since I’ve been here for the last four years,” he said.

“Seeing businesses come out and actually support the initiative and try to give back to students was beneficial for the freshman to see.”

Many of the freshmen say they are looking forward to all that the new school year has to offer from an academic and social stand point.

“I am looking forward to working hard, getting good grades and maintaining my full four year scholarship,” said one freshman.

“I’m looking forward to pursuing my career in nursing and meeting new people. I am very excited.” said another.

Classes officially begin this coming Monday.
