The Bahamas Postal Service has released a set of stamps celebrating the christening of Prince George. Born July 22, 2013 and christened October 23, of that same year, Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge is the first child of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
Prince George is also third in line to succeed his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, after his grandfather Prince Charles and his father. Along with the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the United Kingdom Overseas Territories of Ascension Island, British Virgin Islands, Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Tristan da Cunha, also produced a celebratory collection of stamps. Andrew Robinson designed the set of stamps issued by The Bahamas, which feature photographs of royal christening scenes. The 15-cent stamp features the Christening group of Princess Elizabeth, who was christened May 1, 1926.
The 50-cent stamp showcases Prince Charles asleep in the arms of his mother, then Princess Elizabeth, after his Christening at Buckingham Palace on December 15, 1948. Looking on are, left, King George VI, The Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother). The 65-cent stamp features the Prince and the Princess of Wales — Prince Charles and Princess Diana — with Prince William after his christening at Buckingham Palace August 4, 1982. The 70-cent stamp showcases the official portrait for the christening of Prince George – with his parents looking on, photographed in The Morning Room at Clarence House in London on October 23, 2013. The First Day Cover for the set features Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge talking to Queen Elizabeth II (not pictured) as they arrive, holding their son Prince George, at Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace, ahead of the christening of the three month-old by the Archbishop of Canterbury on October 23, 2013.
