Fifty-eight Haitian migrants were apprehended in the Central Bahamas on Monday afternoon by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
According to officials, while on routine patrol shortly after midday, the HMBS Yellow Elder observed a 40-ft Haitian sloop seven nautical miles off Norman’s Cay, in the Exuma Chains.
After conducting a search of the vessel, the migrants – 47 males, 9 females and two children – were found onboard without proper documentation to enter the country.
The Haitian migrants were relocated onboard the RBDF vessel because of the unsanitary condition of the Haitian sloop.
The latest group of migrants was expected to arrive in New Providence late yesterday.
