As Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) seeks to improve the outcomes for patients its employees engaged in their annual discharge planning exhibition competition yesterday.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Shutting the Revolving Door.”
Senior Nursing Officer and Coordinator of the event Paulette Bowe during an interview with The Bahama Journal noted the event’s significance.
“All departments are invited to participate in this event. What it does is generate sensitivity and awareness, utilizing a multi-disciplinary team approach to discharge planning and its significance. It’s also to improve the outcome of patients’ satisfaction and indeed cutting costs for our clients,” Nurse Bowe explained.
“We want to see how we can improve the process. We want to see what we can do as clinicians to decrease the number of readmissions that are occurring. We also want the clients to function optimally in society, not having to give up and return here because they don’t have the necessary support systems.”
Nurse Bowe said the exhibition competition was stiff.
“With the competition different wards are invited to participate. Twelve wards were actually involved from the psychiatric area, substance abuse area, the geriatrics area, and of course, the departments,” she added.
“I would not want to be a judge.”
The exhibition was held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Two wards were tied for first place.
The lucky victors were the Quality and Safety Ward and the Cruickshank Ward.
First runner up was the Male Ward.
Trailing behind as second and third runner up was the McClennan and Occupational Therapy Wards respectively.
