Two men ages 20 and 24 were arrested yesterday morning in connection with a $1.5 million marijuana bust in waters off Long Island.
According to Superintendent of Police and Commander of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) Samuel Butler the suspects were pursued and arrested on board a go-fast vessel.
“In the very early hours of (Wednesday) morning, sometime around 2:00 when we got certain intelligence and started to pursue a go-fast speed boat in waters off Hard Bargain, Long Island.
“Our pursue concluded with the arrest of two Bahamian males, the seizure of a Magnum 300-foot go-fast vessel and some 37 bags of suspected marijuana. We estimated the marijuana to be some 1,500 pounds. This seizure is on the heel of a number of major successes by the DEU and it’s certainly because of the resilient efforts of our officers who are committed to this task to continue to protect the boarders of The Bahamas.”
The drugs along with the two suspects were transported to the capital via a United States Coast Guard helicopter and were offloaded at the Odyssey Airport.
Supt. Butler added that it is clear that the two men are a part of a major drug network and that drugs came from outside the country.
This drug seizure is among one of many that have happened in the month of April.
