Fox Hill Day Shootout

Three men were reportedly wounded during the mayhem that erupted Wednesday morning outside a nightclub in Fox Hill as celebrations marking the annual Fox Hill Day tradition came to an end.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. as a crowd gathered outside the establishment a short distance away from where the celebrations were held.

There was a disturbance which eventually led to objects being thrown into the crowd and gunshots being fired.

There was a large amount of fired cartridges found in the street, police have said.

The three men – a 30-year-old resident of Marathon Estates, a 28-year-old man of Armbrister Street and a 23-year-old man from Johnson Road all suffered gunshot injuries.

The incident has sparked memories of the mass shooting that occurred on Fox Hill’s Freedom Park last December 27 that resulted in four people being killed and seven others wounded after gun men opened fire on a crowd gathered at the park awaiting junkanoo results.

Claudzeno Davis, Shenique Sands, Eric Morrison and Shaquille Demeritte were all killed in that attack.

Fox Hill MP Fred Mitchell yesterday said that this incident occurred after the Fox Hill Day festivities concluded and overall he maintained that the celebrations were incident-free.

“The Fox Hill Festival was over and done, it was shut down properly by police at 2:00 a.m.,” he said. “Shortly after that, some people were objecting to the fact that the festival had been closed and didn’t want to go home. They then tried to block the streets and started throwing missiles at the police. There was some kind of dispute near one of the local bars away from the site of the festival and there was some shots fired and it appears that somebody was injured.

“The police discovered the matter because people showed up at the hospital. The [injured] individuals were taken to the hospital in private vehicles and CDU was actually investigating the matter to reconstruct what had actually happened.”
Police meanwhile are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to contact them at 911, 919 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 328-TIPS.

Murder Victim Identified

Police have identified the man whose lifeless body was found lying along a tract road on Sumner’s Way Tuesday morning as 28-year-old Ryan Smith of Fifth Street Coconut Grove.

Smith was also a suspect in two murders that occurred early morning.

Nadia Cartwright, 33 and Latoya Williams, 35, were killed in separate shootings Monday.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man from Montel Heights was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with Smith’s murder.
