Man charged for murders of Deacon and ZNS Broadcaster

Friends and family members of two men recently killed can now breathe a sigh of relief as the alleged murder was brought before the courts on Friday to be arraigned on not only murder charges, but a litany of other charges.

The man who allegedly went on a robbery spree since late last year was charged with the recent murders of New Bethlehem Baptist Church deacon Ivan Cleare and ZNS radio broadcaster Scott Richards.

Richard Bevans, 27, of Bernard Road was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes on 25 counts related to murder, armed robbery and rape.

Bevans was first charged with the murder of Richards which occurred on May 27th.

Richards was found in the early morning hours of May 27th near bonefish pond. Police suspect that he was shot shortly before 10 a.m.

Just a few days later police arrested a 42 year old male however he was subsequently released.

It is alleged Raquel Johnson aka Ganja Baby along with Bevans caused the death of Richards just hours after he had completed his shift at the broadcasting corporation.

Johnson was charged with Richards murder on June 1st..

Bevans was also charged with the country’s latest murder last week Sunday of Cleare.

Cleare was shot in the early morning hours of June 12th while he was withdrawing money from a Scotiabank ATM on Jerome Avenue.

Additionally Bevans was charged with 15 counts of armed robbery with incidents dating back as far as late last year.

He was also charged with two counts of receiving, one count of kidnapping, two counts of abduction, one count of attempted rape and one count of rape.

Bevans was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services until June 27th for a voluntary bill of indictment along with Johnson.

He will return again on July 18th for all other charges.
