A local Wed Shop owner is lashing out at the government for what he calls a betrayal.
Craig Flowers, Chief Executive Officer of FML Group of Companies said as a Bahamian he feels betrayed by the Free National Movement government’s decision to increase in taxes.
“I feel betrayed by the present government because the argument that was made was that it was the people’s time, and I thought the people’s time meant that this government was going to provide for us,” he said.
“And not just to provide for us, but to recognize the mistakes of the former government and that the people’s desire from the former government was for you to be able to improve my life,” he added.
“The improvement in my lifestyle that I asked of you, means to me that I would be able to retain more of my little change in my pocket at the end of the day. Not for me to have to pay more taxes; not for the cost of living for me in the country to increase.”
“I’m of the opinion that the former government would have imposed a 7.5 per cent tax for me and I threw them out on their heads,” he said.
“That’s why I threw them out. They applied more taxes, they went against my wishes and regulated the gaming, they made me miserable.”
He added that he thought this Minnis-led administration would recognize the mistakes of the former government.
However, Mr. Flowers said he believes the government has not learned anything from its predecessors.
Mr. Flowers comments come as a guest on the Love 97 talk show “On Point,” with host Wendal Jones.
